No One Gives You Permission to Belong

In this episode, I reflect on the meaning of belonging in a world that can often feel divided, uncertain and increasingly hostile.
As an immigrant, the world can feel particularly difficult right now. Current events, social division and anti-immigrant rhetoric used for political gain can deeply affect our sense of safety, identity and place in the world. These moments remind us just how easily people can be made to feel unwelcome, and how fragile our sense of belonging can be.
Exploring how our earliest experiences of belonging, or not belonging, shape the way we move through the world. The stories we carry from childhood, whether joyful or painful, often leave clues about what we need from our homes as adults. Looking back at those experiences can help us create spaces that support, comfort and even help to heal us.
The reality of immigration and building a life far from where you were born is not always easy. Belonging is far more complex than simply fitting in. When we move countries, cities or go through major life changes, home often becomes something we are trying to recreate, rather than simply a physical address.
Humans are wired for connection. We need places where we feel safe, accepted and understood. Our homes can play an important role in nurturing those connections, whether with family, friends or community. They can become places of comfort, welcome and restoration, not only for ourselves, but for others too.
Join me as I explore how your story shapes both you and your home, our deep human need for belonging, and how we can begin to create that sense of belonging for ourselves through the spaces we live in and the lives we build.
It feels like an important time to have this conversation. Don't wait for someone else to grant you permission to belong.
Take it.
Reclaim it.
Belonging is something we can actively create for ourselves through the homes we build, the people we welcome in, and the life we choose to create.
It's not about having the biggest home or the most beautiful one. It's about having a place where you can be fully yourself.
